Mental arithmetic tests for Y1 designed to be done fortnightly.
Following the tests, teachers and pupils discuss and compare different strategies used to solve the problems. To date evidence suggests that mental calculations have increased whole school attainment and accelerated pupils' progress. Introduction and project focus.
These have now been upgraded to include an interactive, dynamic YouTube movie in each PowerPoint. This is because I know teachers are moving away from PowerPoint to YouTube and I thought it would be fun to give them the option of being able to use and share this work directly on YouTube.
Here is a list of the different lessons in this FREE Year 1 Maths Lessons Pack
Lesson 1: Addition and Subtraction
Lesson 2: Splitting Numbers
Lesson 3: Using Number Lines To ‘Count On’
Lesson 4: Pairs and Doubling
Lesson 5: Taking Away
Lesson 6: Adding and Taking Away Pairs of Numbers
Lesson 7: Numbers to 20 in Order
Lesson 8: Writing numbers to 20
Lesson 9: Ordering Numbers
Lesson 10: Money Problems
Lesson 11: More Money Problems
I produced a wide range of different maths PowerPoint lessons at the start of my career. These would make perfect supply teacher lessons or where you need a quick lesson to cover a topic.
I uploaded them due to popular demand.
Teachers have moved on from worksheets and PowerPoints to a lot more fun with YouTube and so I am now trying to redevelop my teaching resources to match this changing world. I must admit I am much happier with a YouTube video than a PowerPoint. This lesson has cleverly combined both. You could share the Youtube lesson with parents to watch at home as extra support as well as in the classroom.

Fun Random Number Math Game - where I sound like a chipmunk. I generate 8 different numbers each day which my students use for adding, subtracting, multiplying and other exciting maths games. I sometimes just give them the first 5 numbers in the video and ask them to work out how they could make the number 100 using the 4 different number operations.
I have set myself the task of creating a Daily Multiplication Quiz - Day 2 - for my students. I found a cool old board in a junk shop and then went about using it to generate as many different numbers as I wanted in an exciting way. The kids who have tried this lesson have all really enjoyed themselves. Even better, if you try theDaily Multiplication Quiz - Day 2 - you will find you can have all the kids working on different times tables and still take the quiz as a whole class. You can even use it to teach them how to subtract numbers from 100 instead. Each day come back and try another version of this fun game!
Daily random numbers - Maths game. Every day I will generate 8 new numbers and as a creative maths teacher you can use them in the classroom.
You could simply get the kids to make as many additions as possible in a certain amount of time, you could get them to add, divide, multiply or sort.
If you stop the video after only 5 numbers, you could the class to work out how they can make 100 or as near to 100 as possible with just 5 numbers. It is a whole new concept in maths. Every day, for your maths warmup, you simply show them the latest video and then devise a simple, high speed maths game.
You could even differentiate by getting different table to complete different tasks, all using the same numbers.
I wanted to create a fun multiplication quiz for my students. I wanted one I cpuld easily make each day for the students. I will be uploading a new movie each day. The idea is that you take these numbers and multiply them by the timetable of your choice!
This fun multiplication quiz lets you test all the class at the same time, as each child is simply working with their own multiplication times table.
I wanted to give me students daily mental maths practice in a fun and different way. I have provided a way of generating pairs of numbers using a spinning top. The numbers could be added together, subtracted from each other, the numbers could be multiplied or divided, depending on the age and ability of your class. This test is designed so different children in the same class could be doing the same test, but with different number operations. This means every child is actively involved in the lesson! This daily mental maths practice will be updated on a daily basis!
Here is my Daily Multiplication Test - Day 3 which I use in my classroom. The children choose their own multiplication test and then we multiply each number by the chosen number in 10 seconds. The children could also use the same numbers to subtract from 100.,
Here is my 3 Dice Math Game video. You can use it to play games with 3 dice, generate three-digit numbers or a 2-difit number and a 1 digit number. How many different numbers can you make from 3 dice? There are endless ways of using this resource. I really hope you find this 3 Dice Math Game as useful as I have.
I created a 2 Dice 2 Colours Maths Game so you can play any game requiring 2 dice. As they are different colours, you can also take the 2 dice and say, the red dice is the tens and the white dice is the units and generate lots of different 2-digit numbers. There are lots of different exciting 2 Dice 2 Colours Maths Games you can play. I really hope you enjoy this video.
I created this 1 Dice Maths Game so I can play endless classroom games with my students. This 1 Dice Math Game is 10 minutes long, so you have plenty of time to complete any fun classroom maths games.
The 1 Dice Maths Game could also be used to generate numbers for counting spots, adding or multiplying different numbers. It could also be used to work out how often different numbers appear on a dice.
I really hope you find my 1 Dice Maths Game useful.
I teach a lot online. I wanted to develop a long 2 Dice Maths Game video so I can play and every child can see. These 2 dice could be also used to generate lots of 2-digit numbers, multiply numbers, add the dots. There are endless different fun dice maths games you can play with your students. I hope you really enjoy this 2 Dice Maths Game.
I created this maths class music video by throwing dice for 30 minutes. It is calming, and repetitive, which means the children will not be distracted by the screen. However, any parent, teacher, senior management figure coming in will see the screen, see the dice and instantly know that dice and numbers are being used to generate an active, fun maths learning environment. Try this maths class music and see if it helps your class remain relaxed and focused.
I created this 2 Dice Math Game as I needed to play a game with 2 dice with my students. The video is 10 minutes long so you will hopefully not need to restart it to carry on the game.
The dice could also be used for adding numbers together, multiplying them or generating 2 digit numbers for use in the class room. I hope you enjoy playing the 2 Dice Math Game as much as my class does.
